THE STORY: Although the story of Aladdin is about a poor boy in China, it is still one of the tales from the Arabian Nights, and often is told with the Arabian Setting. Elwoodettes Aladdin is set in China, as told in the original story, but adds not only the Arabian influences which must have crept in as Sheherezade told the story, but also the exuberance of English Pantomime and musical comedy. The story opens in the marketplace in China, where Maddass, the evil Magician, is looking for an impressionable youth who can help him retrieve the wonderful lamp, but in the course of events, the characters travel to the far off lands of Persia and Africa, for after all, anything is possible in a fairy tale - or Genie tale. And naturally, as in all good fairy tales, our hero and his bride overcome all the obstacles and come back home to China for the traditional happy ending. We hope you enjoy this retelling of the exotic and magical tale of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp.
